Student Center Construction Update

Student Center

FLCC’s new Student Services Center is set to open in summer of 2011, and the construction phase is underway.  This means some big changes are in store for the campus.

Construction Status

In March, FLCC broke ground on the 78,000-square-foot Student Services Center, which will house a 410-seat auditorium, a larger cafeteria and bookstore and all enrollment services in a convenient One-Stop Center. Framing of the building has begun, with work on the auditorium portion well under way. The Student Services Center is scheduled to open in summer 2011.

Various road and sidewalk improvements are also in the works.

Entryways and Parking

Due to these multiple construction projects on campus, students must enter from Route 364 (East Lake Road) and park in the Constellation Brands Marvin Sand Performing Arts Center lot, also called the G lot.

Only in the following cases should students use the Lakeshore Drive entrance:

  • College Suites residents using Suites permit parking. Cars without permits will be towed.
  • Cars dropping off students at the library entrance.
  • Students dropping off children at the Child Care Center.
  • Students arriving after 3 p.m. who use the lot behind the main campus, also called the D lot. The D lot is permit only until 3 p.m. Before that time, cars without permits will be towed.
  • Students using handicapped accessible parking.

The main parking lot, also called the A lot, will be closed for the fall semester so it can be rebuilt and repaved in advance of the opening of the Student Services Center.

In addition, the main road through campus, Marvin Sands Drive, is also undergoing extensive work to replace a culvert with a bridge and widen the road for better traffic flow. Temporary car and pedestrian bridges are in place during construction.

The portion of Marvin Sands Drive from the library entrance to the Constellation Brands Marvin Sands Performing Arts Center box office will be closed during construction of a sidewalk.

In a related project, the town of Hopewell will build a walkway from The Honors House at 4340 Lakeshore Drive to a new crosswalk to be painted at the intersection with Marvin Sands Drive.

We thank everyone for their patience during this exciting time. Check back frequently as weather and other issues can change the construction schedule.
